Wish Foundation Scholarship Recipients - Fall 2024

Crytal Gould

(Nursing)

Dr K Chandrasekaran Scholarship

Thank you for the opportunity to be a recipient of The Wish Foundation Scholarship. My future career goals include working as a registered nurse in a local hospital setting, caring for patients and growing my nursing knowledge. I have goals to find placement in a department serving mothers and babies. I also plan to immediately continue my education towards a bachelor's degree, and eventually become a nurse practitioner. My anticipated graduation date is December 15th, 2025. I have 9 credit hours left before graduation.

Kristina Horton

(Dental Hygiene)

Drs. Chitrabanu / Late Somasundaram Scholarship

IThank you so much for considering me for the continuation of the Wish Scholarship, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to receive this amazing scholarship again this year. I have continued working diligently to complete my Associate's in Science, Dental Hygiene at Mesa Community College while also taking classes at Northern Arizona University to complete my Bachelor's in Science, Dental Hygiene at the same time. I am expected to graduate with both in May 2026 and start working as a dental hygienist at the office that I am still currently employed at as a hygiene assistant. I have a total of 26 credits left to take over the next two semesters before I graduate with both degrees. It has been a long journey, and I am looking forward to graduation and starting this new career path.

Jessica Poll

(Engineering)

Lakshmi Purushothaman / Chegu Scholarship

To me, receiving this scholarship provides more than financial security when pursuing a college degree. It also provides validation that my dream is of worthy pursuit. Receiving extra financial security will help me take that further step in making my dream a reality. Now then, what is my dream? Currently, my dream is just working towards making the world a more harmonious place to be. I am going to school at community college with the plan of furthering my education at Arizona State University to achieve a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering. My career goal is to help bring about the restructuring of the systems that businesses and companies currently have in place. I would like to put focus on the "recycling" process of company waste and make sure all things are handled properly and scrapped so that the limited resources may be reused. Another thing I would like to do with my career is help combat the pollution in the air and perhaps come up with a way to "filter" the air we have in our atmosphere, pretty similar to how trees are a natural filtration process for the environment. I wouold like to develop ways of combatting the climate crisis currently happening all around the world. I would like to eventually work my way up to being a global influence, and help in the development of other countries after working on ways to help my home country first.

Noor Shammakh

(Social Work)

Sandhya / Balaji Scholarship

Thank you so much for choosing me to receive the Wish Scholarship for the 2024–2025 academic year. Your generosity means a great deal to me, and I truly appreciate the support. This scholarship helped me stay focused and motivated in pursuing my education.

My educational goal is to earn an Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education, which will give me the knowledge and skills needed to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young children and their families. I chose this field because of my passion for supporting early development and creating nurturing, educational environments during a child’s most formative years. I plan to graduate in Full 2026 and currently need approximately 19 more credit hours to complete my degree. In the future, I hope to continue on to a four-year college to further my education and expand my opportunities in the field.

Thank you again for your continued support and for offering this scholarship opportunity for the upcoming year. I really appreciate your generosity.

Jasmine Chavez

(Biological Sciences)

Sulochana / Rangan Scholarship

Receiving the Wish Foundation Scholarship would significantly enhance my educational journey by providing essential financial support as I pursue my degree at MCC. As a low-income, first-generation college student, financial challenges often threaten to derail my academic progress. This scholarship would alleviate a substantial portion of my tuition and related expenses, allowing me to focus on excelling in my coursework rather than worrying about how to pay for my education. The ongoing financial support over multiple semesters would enable me to plan my academic path with greater certainty and stability. With this scholarship, I can dedicate myself fully to my studies, participate in extracurricular activities, and pursue opportunities that will prepare me for a career as a Physician Assistant. Ultimately, the Wish Foundation Scholarship would be instrumental in helping me break the cycle of hardship in my family, empowering me to achieve my academic and professional goals while contributing to the Arizona community.

Dieeuv Truong

(Nursing)

Silambam ( Drs. Mohan Gopalakrishnan / Srimathy Mohan) Scholartship

My educational goal is to complete my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and pursue a career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), where I can provide skilled, compassionate care to patients during some of their most vulnerable moments. I am currently on track to graduate in May of 2026 and have approximately 18 credits remaining to fulfill my degree requirements at Mesa Community College. This journey has not been easy, but it has been incredibly meaningful. As a single mother raising an autistic child, the support from the Wish Scholarship has lightened the financial burden and allowed me to focus on both my studies and my son. Your generosity has reminded me that there are people who believe in my potential, even when the path feels overwhelming. It has given me hope, strength, and motivation to keep pushing forward. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and committed to using my education to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of those I care for.

Joseph Lucero

Welding

Dr. K Chandrasekharan Wish Foundation Scholarship

"This semester I was told that I maximize my financial aid and I have no other means of getting financial assistant. So receiving this award will really help me finish this last leg of my journey in my education. I just want to let you know that welding is a very important part of my life and I feel like this will help my family and myself. Thank you"

Rebecca Stanley

Business (General)

Sulochana and Rangan Scholarship

"This scholarship would relieve tremendous stress for the cost of living and transportation to school. Giving time to spent on my education and making sure I am obtaining the information to succeed when I graduate. Working only part time helps with studying and raising my child at the same time."

Ishtyaq Alothman

Biological Sciences

Drs. Chitrabanu / Late Somasundaram Scholarship

"Receiving the WISH Scholarship would significantly support my educational journey by easing the financial burden of college expenses. As a dedicated student and a mother of two, balancing academics, parenting, and financial responsibilities can be challenging. This scholarship would allow me to focus more on my studies without the constant stress of how to afford tuition, textbooks, and other essential supplies.

It would also help me stay on track toward earning my degree in biological sciences, a step that brings me closer to my goal of working in a healthcare setting where I can make a meaningful difference in people's lives. With this support, I can continue pursuing my education with determination, maintain my academic success, and set a strong example of perseverance for my children.

Ultimately, the WISH Scholarship would not only help me reach my personal and professional goals but also empower me to give back to my community in the future. "

Alicia Howard

Networks and System Administration

Chegu / Purushotaman Living Trust Scholarship

"Receiving the Wish Foundation Scholarship would significantly ease the financial burden of my education as I pursue an AAS degree in Network and Systems Administration with a Cisco specialization at Mesa Community College. As a full-time student and single mother of five, I carefully balance household responsibilities, academic goals, and professional development. While I've made tremendous progress through my coursework and certifications, covering tuition and materials for 18 credits can be challenging. This scholarship would allow me to redirect funds toward necessary tools such as certification exam fees, learning software, and reliable internet access—all of which are essential for success in a technology-driven program. It would also provide peace of mind and help me stay focused on academic achievement rather than financial strain.

I am committed to becoming a certified IT professional, contributing to Arizona's tech workforce, and mentoring others through my business, From Pain to Paid. By investing in me, the Wish Foundation supports not only my goals but also the future success of others I aim to uplift through education and empowerment. Your support will help me stay on track to graduate, earn industry certifications, and transition into a high-paying, remote IT role that sustains my family. "

Krystal Dipple

Sulochana and Rangan Scholarship

"Receiving this scholarship would mean far more than financial support, it would be a lifeline for my dreams. As someone who has faced obstacles not just academically but personally, this opportunity would be a reminder that my hard work, my late nights, and my quiet resilience have not gone unnoticed. It would lift a heavy weight off my shoulders, allowing me to focus not on how I'll afford next semester, but on becoming the first in my family to walk across a graduation stage.

This scholarship would not only ease the burden, it would ignite hope. It would mean fewer missed meals to pay for books, fewer hours working two jobs just to stay enrolled, and more time dedicated to learning, growing, and giving back to the community that raised me. It would be a promise that someone believes in me, and that belief would carry me through every difficult test, every long night, and every moment I wonder if I'm good enough. Because of this scholarship, I wouldn't just be a student chasing a degree, I'd be a story of perseverance, of what happens when someone is given the chance to rise."

Corynne Colli

"My single mom has just suddenly and unexpectedly been suspended from her job of four years. Now my pay check will be going towards rent and helping support the families financial needs. My education has always been a top priority for me and I would be honored and so grateful to have the financial assistance that allows me to further my education and become the best version of myself. Thank you. "

Ryan Tabor

(Associate degree in Arts)

Sandhya / Balaji Scholarship

My name is Ryan Tabor, and I'm writing to apply for the Wish Foundation Scholarship. Though focused on my studies, I'm somewhat eclectic when it comes to my interests, reflected in my approach to college at MCC. My passion extends to many subjects, and my excitement for learning will have me dive into them all head-first. Having just started college I'm a part-time student, currently earning credits that will be needed regardless of my major. I'll soon be committing myself to college full time, and your support will be crucial in allowing me the freedom to thrive academically. After earning my GED with college credit I'm now in Maricopa Community College working towards a two-year degree. I'm currently earning an Associate In Arts while learning more about potential career paths via job-shadowing, visiting job fairs, my own research and elective courses at MCC. When I'm not gaining an education, I also volunteer for about eight hours each week at a local animal shelter. There I maintain the dogs' and cats' hygiene, pick off parasites, play with them, and help them find new, safe homes by speaking with prospective pet owners. While at college I'll earn universally necessary credits and establish a good foundation before changing my planned major to one which aligns with my ultimate career choice. Though on a road of self-discovery, I have narrowed down my potential career path to the fields of software development, game development, culinary, behavioral health, nutritional health, and education; my major will likely find itself in one of these fields. I'll be attending classes relevant to these interests to help discover where my greatest passion lies while earning credits for my associate degree. Since childhood, my hobbies and interests have intersected with gaming and computer technology. As a kid I had access to a home computer, and my dad would teach me how it could be used to make schoolwork easier, whenever we weren't playing games together. I spent enough time on my PC that even when I was thirteen, I could type at a speed of 100 wordsper-minute! Nowadays I'll spend time making modifications to my video games and writing simple scripts to automate tedious tasks on my computer. Going through therapy both in groups and in-person for two years has made me appreciate the value of psychological care. In group there were moments where I was able to provide empathy and understanding to fellow group members. While I acted only as a friend, giving them even that mundane care was satisfying and enriching in a way that has made me consider a career in mental health ever since. My success as a student means a lot to me. Education can make an impressive resume, but it can also enrich one's perspective and give them advantages in every corner of life. Knowledge can make even something as simple as a casual conversation more engaging, but it can also give us the tools to express ourselves in ways we never thought possible. It can give meaning to things we thought were meaningless and perspective to people we never truly understood. Through college I want to learn to better understand the world around me, how to best express myself and to create my own art and software while working towards my ideal career path. If granted your support, the funds will go towards tuition and essential personal finances like rent, electricity and transportation. They may also go towards necessary course materials such as books and electronics, like a personal school laptop. This will help enable me to sign up for more credit hours and work as a student full time. I'm aware that you as a donor want your contributions to be used meaningfully, to be used by students to support their dreams and become productive and happy members of society. No one wants to be a disappointment, especially to those that have supported them like their teachers, parents, or partners. In that same vein, I promise not to disappoint you if you would support me as I reach for a bright future. I would be privileged to have your support, and I appreciate your time and consideration while reading.
